March meeting

When we did our programme planning for the year, we had put down Spring crafts for our March meeting, and to tell the truth I don't think that I thought much further than that.  Closer to the time I startted to think of what we could 'make'. Searching around the Internet, I was inspired by some Spring wreaths that I saw on pinterest and decided that those would be something that would be relatively easy to make with a large group.

I ordered the polystyrene wreaths, and asked the members to bring fabric to cover the wreath and paper to make the flowers.

I also made different shaped and sized flower templates to draw around to make the flowers.

Everyone seemed to really enjoy making the wreaths, and it was great to see new and older members sitting chatting together as they worked away on their wreaths.

It is so nice to have this couple of hours once a month that is separate from family and work. I think a lot of the ladies feel the same way about this 'me time'.

It was great to see how different the wreaths looked due to the different papers that people used.

They really do look quire effective once finished.

NB: We wrapped strips of fabric around the wreaths to cover them, cut out flowers from various papers, wrapping, tissue, pages from old books, magazines etc. We layered up the flowers an attached them to the wreath with pins. Finally we attached ribbon for hanging.

Spring Craft fair...

Cake, cake and even more cake....

This months meeting saw us holding a Vintage tea party to celebrate our first birthday. We asked members to bring along some home baking, we had intended to have a recipe swap, but soon realised that to print out copies of each recipe for everyone was a mammoth task.
We will be collecting the recipes and making up a Lytham Belles recipe book which we will be able to sell to members, and also to the public at events during the year.

Everyone really pushed the boat out and we had a fantastic array of bakes, everyone went home with a good selection and I am happy to say there was nothing left at the end of the evening !

Happy 1st Birthday

It is nearly one whole year since we set up Lytham Belles WI.
I read a magazine article in January last year about the Shoreditch Sisters WI and I thought it would be great to have a group like that in this area.
After contacting the WI Federation, I was told there was a group in Lytham which met on a Tuesday morning, no good for me with work. I asked if there was anything stopping me setting up another group which could meet in the evening, and was told no there was no reason not to and I was assigned Pam who was to be our adviser.
I met Pam for a coffee one morning in January, I was able to tell her that I had a few friends interested, had set up a Facebook page and had a hall sorted and intended to run the first Sunday of each month. Pam gave me all the information I needed and we arranged to have the first meeting on Sunday 5th February 2012, Pam would come along with another adviser, Ann, to official set up the group.
Pam asked me how many people I thought would be there, "Between 20 and 30 I hope", I remember saying to her. 65 ladies turned up to that first meeting !, and the group has gone from strength to strength.

We have a great committee who have all worked really hard all year and fantastic supportive members.

We have had some interesting meetings, tried out new things and become involved in the wider community, forging links with the ParkView 4U organisation and also working alongside The Council at the 1940's Wartime Weekend.

The best part for me personally has been the great women I have met and the new friendships formed.

Surely that is something to be celebrated, so we are having a First birthday Party, A Vintage Tea Party to be precise.....
Would you like to come ?
