WHAT ROCKS YOUR BOAT.....

The time for our very first LYTHAM BELLES meeting is rapidly approaching;

Sunday 5th February 2010
7.30 90pm
Victory Hall, Lytham.

On the night of the first meeting everyone will be given a questionnaire to fill in detailing the types of things that we would like to do as a group and what we hope to get out of it.
I thought it might me an idea to start the ball rolling by making some suggestions....

So, have you a curiosity for crochet...
(Gorgeous grannies).

Like a go at sketching of perhaps potting...

Want to become a domestic goddess...

Do you have a secret desire to try burlesque ?....

Want to find a voice and stand up for what you believe.....

How about having a go at making some jewellery?.....

And I know its a bit of a stereotype, but where would the W.I be without jam ?....

We could make our own group quilt....
Sushi making anyone ?...

or maybe you fancy a good knit and a natter...

And then when you have learnt all these new skills you can enter the local W.I.show ...

These are just a few suggestions and really the tip of the iceberg, there are so many things we can do.

Over to you now, what do you fancy, or is there something that you could teach the rest of us ?

Please feel free to leave a comment....

JUST LIKE KIRSTY !

I met with Pam our groups allocated adviser on Thursday, she answered lots of my questions and clarified a few things so I feel that we are ready and rearing to go for our first meeting on the 5th February 2012.

One of the things we talked about was the W.I.'s annual County Show which is held at Garstang.

As 2012 is a special year o with both the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Olympic Games taking place. the theme "Celebrate Britain " has been chosen.

There is an extensive list of classes to enter - baking, photography, floral art, preserving, card making etc, the list goes on and on....

Once we are all members of the Lytham Belles W.I. will are eligible to enter.

So, do you fancy following in Kristy's footsteps and having a go ?

INSPIRING WOMEN...

Feeling tired, over eaten through the festive period ? , Want to be inspired ?, Kick your New Year off by Joining the W.I.

Like the logo says - The WI is inspiring women everywhere to broaden their horizons or learn something new.

We wanted to start-up a WI to meet other like minded women, other than through work, children, family etc. Also to learn new skills, and discover things that we would perhaps  not have considered or been able to do on our own.

The traditional element of the WI  appeals to us, getting back to basics and a sense of community. Sometimes life is so busy, and we  wanted  to offer women the opportunity to take part in something that was separate from other responsibilities, work, family etc.

There is far more to the WI than the ever-cited 'Jam and Jerusalem', and in more recent years its aims have broadened so that the WI now plays 'a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to them and their communities' W.I.website

We have set up both Facebook https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Lytham-Belles-WI-Group/266935760029957 and Twitter @lythambellesW.I. pages where we will do most of the promoting for the group.

Hopefully we will  have a good mix of members that will continue to grow through the months to come.

We really want this W.I. to be one of the 'new breed' of Women's institute groups.  We have been inspired by the  SHOREDITCH SISTER W.I. who have the youngest membership age in the country and offer a wide range of activties for their members.

We want to challenge the perceptions and stereotypes of what the WI is about.

The phrase on the logo is perfect; the WI is inspiring women everywhere to broaden their horizons or learn something new.
